Great place to visit or spend the day any time of the year. Awesome sunsets. Sand between your toes. Rolling waves. People watching. View thunderstorms as they approach. Just a few of the fun things to do in the summer. In the winter many people like to view or go out on the ice formations.
Best beach in Holland to visit anytime of the year! Although, the best time to visit the beach is the off season which runs from Labor Day to Memorial Day. Otherwise, the beach is usually very overcrowded. What's great about Holland State Park is the awesome view, plenty of ships to watch on the pier, no dunes to climb, and of course the best Lake MI sunsets.
Overall it's a well kept park and with the recent improvements to the paths, parking, and lighting it keeps getting better.
We were there a few months ago, it was our first time visiting Holland, MI and omg we loved it!! Can’t wait till next summer to go back, very nice beach, downtown area is beautiful and the people are very friendly and nice, they will help you to get around town and will make sure visitors have a great time in their city.
As a beach bumb I appreciate the serenity of this park. It is not typical for a lot of the major lake city state parks. This sits a good distance from the major tourist track offering just a little more escape than say... South Haven or Grand Haven.
We may come back for a day at the beach and a visit to local attractions. But likely will not camp here again!
We stayed at the beach campground for 5 nights. Clean restrooms/showers but no shade at campsites. Older camping area has plenty of shade but need Honeypot. Plenty of walking areas and some are wheelchair accessible. Beautiful beach and sunset. If you enjoy beach activities as main source of entertainment every day, it's great. For other things to do you must leave the park. They are sticklers for every rule so read up in advance. We experienced and observed, they are not very tolerant for bending them. Actually a particular camp ground officer was very threatening (physically) for a simple "show of her forceful capabilities" that were totally unnecessary. Heard stories from another camper that has been coming for years that there's a reputation of campers being harassed at this campground. For us there was only one incident that they could have handled much better. This is a converted parking lot so pretty level with sand berms on North and South sides. Nice breeze though. Lake view from innermost campsites only. It is a great view there. Pets not allowed on beach but plenty of other places to walk them. Even with air on and windows closed, your pet can not stay in your unit. You must always take pets with you or leave someone at the site.
